The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL 18) branded as TATA IPL 2025 will be the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI). Total 10 teams will be competing in 74 matches starting from 14 March to 25 May 2025. Kolkata Knight Riders are the defending champions, they won their third title after beating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final
format
The format of IPL 2025 will be same as before where each team will play twice against the teams in their respective group and once against team in another group. After the end of group stage four teams from the top of the table will qualify for playoffs. In playoffs top two teams from points table will compete with each other known as (Qualifier 1), where in the other side team on the third and fourth place will compete against each other known as (Eliminator) .
While the winner of the Qualifier 1 directly qualifies for final match , the losing team will play against the winner of Eliminator match as it is known as Qualifier 2. The winner from the Qualifier 2 will move to final.
Schedule
According to the various reports , the 2025 edition of IPL will begin on 14 March 2025, with the final scheduled for 25 May 2025. The IPL Governing Council has opted to maintain the total number of matches at 74 for this edition, consistent with the previous three seasons, in order to assist cricketers in managing their workload effectively.
