The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be the ninth edition of ICC Champions Trophy. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates(UAE) from Feb 19 to Mar 9, 2025. It will feature the eight highest-ranked men's national teams that qualify from the 2023 Cricket World Cup will participate. Pakistan enters the competition as the defending champions, as they clinched the 2017 champions trophy by defeating India in final.
Host and Venue
Pakistan was announced as the host of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy on 16 November 2021 as part of the 2024-2031 ICC men's hosts cycle. After 28 years Pakistan will host the global tournament. The most recent tournament held in the country was the 1996 Cricket World Cup, which the country co-hosted alongside with India and Sri Lanka. United Arab Emirates(UAE) was announced as the co-host to host matches of India, due to security concerns in Pakistan. UAE will host all matches of India.
Format
Eight qualified teams will be organized into two groups of four. Each team will compete against the three other teams in their group, resulting in a total of ten matches. The two highest-ranked teams from each group will progress to the knockout stage, which will feature two semi-finals and a final. In total, 15 matches will be conducted over a span of 19 days.
Group
The International Cricket Council(ICC) announced the groups and their schedules on 24 Dec 2024. The group stage is set to take place from 19 February to 2 March 2025. Eight teams have been divided into four, with each team competing against the other three teams in their own group, resulting in a total of 15 matches. The first match will be between host nation Pakistan and New Zealand at Nation Stadium of Karachi.
